i am excited to use the yellow {delicate} paint in an upcoming project, but for my dining room chairs makeover i decided to use the everlasting paint!  i loved the idea of painting the chairs white and distressing them.

see this table and chairs?  it is a million years old.  well, not a million, but it goes back to my first marriage.  my sweet parents bought it for my ex-husband and i as a Christmas gift and it has been a sturdy table for our family.  however, with our recent move to Asheville, North Carolina, i decided that i wanted the hubby {the second one} to build a farmhouse table.  as we speak the table top is complete and ready to be stained.  {picking out stain for the table is another blog post in itself!}  we will be moving this table down to our office and keeping the chairs for our new table.  so, a new table meant that my chairs needed a new look and i knew exactly how i wanted to paint them!

i love the fact that there is NO priming or sanding necessary when using the chalky paint, but since i wanted to use the wax on my chairs i knew i needed to sand the parts of the chair that i wanted to distress and use wax on.  so, i pulled out the handy dandy sander and went to town.  i sanded the parts of the chair that would naturally show wear and tear like the edges of the seat, the back of the chair and the legs. i personally like the look of distressed furniture so distress the chair i did.

once you have sanded the parts you want to look distressed, use the wax from a candle to lightly coat those sections.  the paint over top of the wax will easy wipe off once the paint is dry exposing the unfinished wood.

the chalk paint is rather thick, but i did use three coats on this chair.  other pieces that i have done in the past only required 1-2 coats.

once the paint was dry it was time to apply the wax.  i used the deep brown wax on the first chair although i will try the lighter brown on the next chair to see which i like better.

you can use a waxing brush to apply the wax or a simple cloth like what i used here.  you will want to apply a SMALL amount of wax to the part you want to distress and then wipe off the remaining wax with a clean cloth.  it’s just that simple.

after the paint and wax were completely dry i applied the ultra-matte varnish to seal the chair and give it that extra shine.

knowing that i wanted to add a fun element to the chair i decided to use our silhouette machine and add vinyl to the back of each chair.  i do love how it turned out!
